Woodside Cheese Wrights Vigneron cheese won gold in the soft goat milk cheese category at the World Cheese Awards in Birmingham, England, last month. Vigneron is a small round of cheese made using South Australian goat milk. The cheese is left to mature for a few weeks after which it is wrapped in vine leaves and allowed to develop. Woodside was also awarded a silver medal for its semi-hard cow milk cheese, Mandolin, and bronze medals for Manon and its mixed milk fresh cheese Duet. Woodside Cheese Wrights remains the only SA cheese maker to win gold at these awards they also won in 2008 and 2009. Hosted at the BBC Good Food Show, 200 international judges tasted more than 2500 cheeses from 30 countries. The cheese competition is the largest event of its kind in the world.
